For anyone who has been away from the Sacrament of Reconciliation, or who is new to it, anyone who finds themselves tongue-tied in the confessional (myself) the practice of the Examen is a good starting point. We grow accustomed to identifying the negatives and the positives of our responses and actions, so the soul searching is easier. When we can pinpoint our individual patterns of sinfulness, we can more easily confess them and be released from them. The flip side of the Examen is where we see our patterns of growth and blessings, so there we find the foundations to build upon. To coin a phrase, it’s a good thing!
