Margaret Silf is one of the best writers working from within the Ignatian tradition, so it’s a happy occasion when she publishes a new book. The book is The Other Side of Chaos: Breaking through When Life is Breaking Down. Margaret writes about the very tough and painful things life throws at us–divorce, unemployment, illness, and back-breaking toil. These are times for a deeper journey in faith– “not the kind of faith that knows all the answers and has mapped out the right and proper paths, but the faith that says simply, ‘I don’t know, but I trust.'” It’s a much-needed book.
If you’re looking for a good short introduction to Ignatian spirituality, read Margaret’s book Inner Compass. It’s one of the best.
Both of these books are extremely easy to read and very helpful. Margaret Silf writes for the average person and understands what we need. I have recommended them and they are being put in the bookstore at the Manresa Jesuit Retreat Centre which we are fortunate to have near us.
