In this week’s Ignatian Workout for Lent exercise, we consider the theme “The Sick Need a Doctor.” Listen to Tim Muldoon’s reflection below. If you’d like, share some of your own reflections in the comments.
Prayer
Begin to make a habit of the Examen, a prayer of reflection, over the course of the day, with an eye to better understanding where God is moving you. As you look over the day, where do you feel God’s love most strongly? Where do you feel the stirrings of desire? Where do you feel sadness over sin? Bring all these movements into conversation with God, asking him to show you where he is sending you to help bring healing.
Action
Read one of the Gospels the whole way through, and pay close attention to how Jesus is portrayed. Each Evangelist gives a somewhat different portrayal of who Jesus is. Learn to note what each author stresses and get to know Jesus as a person. Take your time—maybe a chapter or two a day. Read it not with the hungry eyes that seek information, as with social media, but with meditative eyes.

I am preparing to go on a 5 day retreat and thought to use your suggestion to read one of the gospels as meditative no informative. Thank you for this suggestion.

Hi Tim.
I enjoy your writings and I find them helpful. Are the books “Longing for Love” and the “The Ignatian Workout ” available on ebooks?
Cheers Joe
