Nearness

The Mystery of the Incarnation overcomes the problem of distance. Without the Incarnation, without the Word of God becoming fully human, God will never be anything more than an abstraction. You cannot get close to an abstraction. You cannot experience intimacy with an idea. But through the Incarnation, we can fall in love with and abandon ourselves to a person.

Pay attention to times throughout your day or week when God feels close to you or you feel close to God. Maybe you feel this closeness during prayer and liturgy. Maybe it’s when you are with friends and family. Maybe God feels closest to you when you are in nature or when you are serving others. How would you describe those moments of closeness with God? What feelings well up inside you during those moments? Call out to God in those moments, because those are the times when God is calling out to you.
