I am a Protestant. When I was very young–maybe 13–I first heard the Ave, maybe on the radio. I was struck by the last line “Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.” There were no Roman Catholics in my town, no one to ask about this prayer. It was years before I learned the whole text.
