Call in the Spiritual Exercises

An Ignatian Prayer Adventure online retreat

This post is based on Week Five of An Ignatian Prayer Adventure.

Fr. Kevin O’Brien, SJ, explains that the image of call is important in the Second Week of the Spiritual Exercises:

In different meditations we reflect on the call of Jesus. We reflect on the call of the disciples, which we can do by using our imagination, by putting ourselves there with Peter and the disciples as Jesus interacts with them. We imagine what that must have been like, but then, ultimately, hopefully, we are led to considering, “Wow! How does Jesus call me?”

O’Brien is the author of The Ignatian Adventure: Experiencing the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius in Daily Life and Seeing with the Heart: A Guide to Navigating Life’s Adventures.

  1. Hi, Fr Kevin. I’m making a compilation of these 31 days for use in a 31-day Camino de Santiago (how exact!) we will do next month. I was so disappointed that your DAY 19. Call in the Spiritual Exercises is a video. Hard for me to transcribe, unlike DAY 17. The Gift of Gratitude by Michael Rossmann, SJ, which lasted a minute and had subtitles. I would appreciate a transcription of this video, if at all possible. I’m with the Christian Life Community in the Philippines. Thank you.

  2. Thank you, it is so important to be reminded that God is there for ‘little’ decisions in our daily life that can make a profound difference to ourselves and others. God Bless
