What Surprises You About St. Ignatius?

Thank so much for that interesting video. What surprises me most about St. Ignatius is how well his methods work. They are just the tools I needed to deepen and develop my faith as a mature Christian. Everything he lays out is so doable for the ordinary person.

You read my mind – this is just what I blogged about today! As I’ve delved deeper into Ignatian Spirituality I have been surprised to find how much it resonates with the spirituality that had developed as I matured. It gives me the language to speak about what I was already feeling and doing.

What surprises me about St. Ignatius, and continues to surprise me each time I experience some aspect of the exercises, is how very much like me I feel he is. I feel like I have gained a great friend in Ignatius, and I wish I could have somehow known him. I am incredibly surprised at the joy he has brought me these past couple of years. God surprises us in amazing ways.

What surprises me most about St. Ignatius and Ignatian spirituality is that he was right, and his methodology works. There is a variety and a down to earth aspect to it that is as applicable now as when first introduced, and it works for me, an ordinary lay person as well as for the most educated theologian. This is an example of true universality in action.

Thank you Vinita and Jim for bringing forth aspects of the life of St. Ignatius that are so very important. That was affirming for me as a woman and also as someone who has learned that it is the journey with God that is important rather than agonizing over whether I have made the correct decision. Our choices are important but if we truly desire to serve God, then God will be in our choices.
