Friday is the feast of St. Ignatius Loyola.  It’s the great celebration of the Ignatian year.  In honor of the feast, Loyola Press is giving readers of the dotMagis blog a chance to win a free copy of Hearts on Fire: Praying with Jesuits, a wonderful compilation of prayers in the Ignatian tradition.

To enter, just leave a comment on this post any time between now and Friday.  Say anything you want.  Five winners will be picked next Monday.  I will contact the winners by email.  (When you comment, you give your email address.  This address will never be used for anything other than communication between you and me.)

You can get other chances to win by visiting the People for Others blog, the Ignatian Spirituality page on Facebook, and our Twitter updates.

Since many of my adult life transitions and have been affected by the ministry of Jesuits, I appreciate the role of St. Ignatius in my life. .. and will be likewise celebrating on Friday – whether I win the book or not! :)

I have heard before about this book, but it was in Arabic language, then in a Spiritual Ignacian Retreat, we used some texts from the book, they were in Arabic also, then, I searched the book, tried to even buy it, but I did not find it ! Can I find a French or an Arabic version in spite of the English one ? Otherwise, I’ll be glad to have the English one !

Ronald July 28, 2009 at 9:20 am

May ‘Hearts on Fire’ lead all who read it to love Jesus more dearly, to see Him more clearly and to follow Him ever more closely.

Julia Babos July 28, 2009 at 1:19 pm

Would like to win one (even if just a PDF issue so that you don’t have to post it to Europe). :)

EF July 28, 2009 at 2:24 pm

I’m not in the mood now to formulate something smart to increase my chances of being picked. Just rest assured, that I would very much like that book if I could. Thank you for your ministries!

John Courtney July 28, 2009 at 2:39 pm

Sounds like a great book to read and share with our school!

Gianfranco July 28, 2009 at 3:25 pm

Seeing God in all the things I do, the good ones and the less good ones. He is always near me but I am not enough near Him. I wish I could serve Him more faithfully. I hope my incoming spiritual exercises will help me see how I can be a more faithful and obedient servant of Him.

Alicia Schwartz July 28, 2009 at 4:37 pm

I jsut want to continue learning.

Jerome Leon, S.J. July 28, 2009 at 5:50 pm

Greetings from the Philippines! We would love to have a copy of your book.

Brian Brown July 28, 2009 at 7:26 pm

One of my favorite quotes comes from that book:

“Lord, help me enter into that peace which consists in having put my life in your hands” – Carlo Maria Martini SJ

So simple, yet profound.

I just subscribed to dotMagis. Have a great week.

Peace,
Brian

Would love to have a copy of this book!

The wisdom of St Ignatius is truly profound. As a young Jesuit I am still learning what is means to be finding God in all things. This website is truly a good resource. Now for the book….. let’s see if I am lucky!

Wish you all a Happy Feast of our Holy Father Ignatius.

Greetings,
Joe

I was married three months ago in the Farm Street Jesuit Church here in London. It was at the wonderful spirituality centre attached to the church that I met my wife Audrey. We honeymooned in Rome and after the nuptial blessing by the Holy Father the highlight was attending mass at the Gesu and St Ignatius. So how wonderful it would be to add this book to our very happy memories and a reminder of how much we owe the Jesuits.

I am reading another book that your readers may also enjoy. It is “The Examen Prayer – Ignatian Wisdom for Our Lives Today”, by Timothy M. Gallagher, OMV. It is the most comprehensive book on the Examen Prayer that I have found. The Introduction to the book was written by George Aschenbrenner, S.J., author of the important paper “Consciousness Examen,” Review for Religious” 31 (1972): 14-21.

It’d be great to win and to have the chance of sharing it with others.

Mark Dramani July 29, 2009 at 11:12 am

I was inspired by reading about the life of st Ignatius and winning a book on his feast day will be great since I thirst each day to discover my self as well as make a special sacrifice for God and my fellow men.

Jose Nunez July 29, 2009 at 2:22 pm

great give away to celebrate St Ignatius Loyola and its spirituality.

Frank July 29, 2009 at 5:22 pm

We are awaiting the ‘Feast’ of one of our great spiritual greats….

The current situation is extremely difficult for me with my husband being illegal detained in a mental hospital. No fair tribunal and I am unable to do anything, being in another country.
If this book could be of any help to him, I would love to win a copy.

Linda Que July 30, 2009 at 7:33 am

God speaks a lot to me through books. I was blessed to be lent a copy of Hearts on Fire by a Jesuit priest 2 years ago and devoured it like a hungry child. My faith walk has been greatly influenced and enhanced by the insights, realizations, and blessings I got from reading the book. I go back to passages and pages of the book `as the Spirit leads me’. Thank you for the chance to be picked and to own a copy.

Curtis July 30, 2009 at 8:26 am

Okay, ya guilted me into buying the book so that I can enjoy it while others have a chance to win it.

Oh, and speaking of good ol’ fashioned Catholic guilt: I shamefully surfed over to Amazon.com as their shipping was cheaper than Loyola’s :(

Mea Culpa

Carla July 30, 2009 at 9:40 am

I would love to read this book!

MaryAnn July 30, 2009 at 10:13 am

Namaste’
Blessings to all the SJ’s out there on St Ignatius’ Feast Day.
You are the best.

Kathleen Burkhalter July 30, 2009 at 12:31 pm

I sometimes think that I never win anything. But then, I chase that thought out of my head because I think it might affect winning. So I think it would be nice to win this book, but I would buy it anyway if I didn’t win in. Happy Feast of St. Ignatius, and God Bless the Jesuits and all they have done, and all they do.

“Whistling Merrily in the Dark” like St. Edmund Campion..

I love this book and could use a new copy. Hope I win! Thanks to the Loyola Press team for this great initiative. Happy Feast Day!

Eny Winarti July 30, 2009 at 7:38 pm

The first time I learned Ignatian Spirituality was when I joined MAGIS 08 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Because of the limited fund, my group held a year training of spiritual exercises in the local community. Some didn’t go to join the gathering in Sydney. The experience, however, has made our “hearts on fire.” Since then, my group feel that we find God in all things.

Now, the members have spread out everywhere, but because our hearts are on fire, we still keep our companionship. The group still hold regular meeting. Even now when I get a scholarship to continue my study in US , I still have the chance to join group discussion in our Magis08 Forum.

Winning the book, hopefully, I will be able to share the prayer with the group.

I’ve just discovered your website and saved it to favorites. Thanks for your good work!

“Tomad, Señor, y recibid toda mi libertad, mi memoria, mi entendimiento y toda mi voluntad, todo mi haber y mi poseer; vos me lo distes, a vos, Señor, lo torno; todo es vuestro, disponed a toda vuestra voluntad; dadme vuestro amor y gracia, que ésta me basta.”

I found it by chance some days ago, reading the Spiritual Exercises. It’s the original Suscipe, Domine:

Receive, O Lord, all my liberty. Take my memory, my understanding, and my entire will. Whatsoever I have or possess Thou hast bestowed upon me; I give it all back to Thee and surrender it wholly to be governed by Thy Will. Give me love for Thee alone along with Thy grace, and I am rich enough and ask for nothing more.

It’s my prayer for today’s feast. Greetings from Spain.

DL July 31, 2009 at 10:48 am

The Suscipe is a wonderful way to start your day! The Examen at night is great, too.

José María Foces Morán July 31, 2009 at 10:57 am

St. Ignatius, intercede for all of us, that we may be able to always feel the presence of our Lord at every step of the way, at the border of every idea, feeling, wish and plan.

Grretings form Spain on St. Ignatius’ Day.

Maria July 31, 2009 at 1:13 pm

May God always be with the Jesuits and those striving to live life in the light of the spirituality proposed by St Ignatius, so that they might love and serve God through their service to others, and help others see God in all things, so that the name of God is glorified through them.

I would love to have this book. Books of prayers were always a big thing when I was a kid. Ignatian prayer is something I have a deep interest in. Thanks for making this available.

Vera August 3, 2009 at 12:21 am

A former Jesuit Volunteer and current support person, I think it looks like a helpful book to read. Happy feast week.

Debbie Campano September 23, 2009 at 5:48 pm

I am going through a dry bones time. This book seems like it would be helpful.

Janet Badilla April 20, 2010 at 6:14 pm

I would love to have a copy of this book. I am a follower of St. Ignatius’s teachings and spiritiuality. I use Ignatian prayers a lot in my life and ministry. So this would be very helpful. Thanks.
